This holiday season has seen unprecedented online shopping demand. Sales are up by 30% all around the country. Even in normal years FedEx, UPS and the USPS were unable to accommodate the increase in shipping volume during the holidays. This year all the shipping companies are over capacity. At the same time, COVID illnesses and precautions in workplaces have greatly impacted the ability of shipping companies to deliver orders quickly.

At MarineAndReef.com we have had no problem processing and packing orders. We are fully staffed and working six days a week. The problem has been with what happens when the order is picked up.

We send most smaller orders through the USPS and bigger orders through FedEx. FedEx is over capacity. FedEx is making zero guarantees at this time. Even expedited orders do not have guaranteed delivery times. If you visit FedEx.com it states:

Record high volumes of e-commerce orders, COVID 19 closures and weather events may cause delivery delays. Before finalizing your shipment, please confirm that your recipient can receive your package and see our latest service alert updates.

The USPS is also having difficulty delivering packages and tracking packages. Quite often an order will be picked up by the USPS, but when you track the package online the pickup will not be reflected. It will just say: "Tracking number created". We assure you the USPS is picking up packages and they will be delivered. But the tracking info is suspect and deliveries will be delayed. If you visit the USPS.com Web site, you will see the message:

ALERT: USPS IS EXPERIENCING UNPRECEDENTED VOLUME INCREASES AND LIMITED EMPLOYEE AVAILABILITY DUE TO THE IMPACTS OF COVID-19. WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE AND REMAIN COMMITTED TO DELIVERING THE HOLIDAYS TO YOU.

We hope you all have a wonderful holiday season. But please, have no expectation that anything ordered from now until Christmas will arrive before Christmas. It might. It might not. No guarantees.

While we certainly have no desire to turn down business, we greatly care about the health of your aquarium. If you really need something quickly, this may be a great time to support your local fish store!
