Controlling aquarium diatom (brown) algae, and other types of algae, is a very complex task. It involves everything from water changes, cleaning filter pads, UV sterilizers, using RO water, & physically removing algae. Aquarium magnet cleaners are an easy way to remove troublesome algae on the inside of your aquarium walls. Be sure to pay attention to the magnet cleaner description. Some aquarium magnet cleaners are meant for acrylic aquariums and some only for glass aquariums.
